Stone-Rosser-Carter families papers [manuscript], 1853-1974.

The early correspondence is business oriented and chiefly concerned with farming, speculation and debts. Later letters are more general and discuss family news. Bills and receipts constitute about half the collection. The papers also contain the 1860 copybook of Oliver F. Gilliam at Hollins Institute, some Campbell Co. deeds and legal documents, printed minutes, 1878-1903, of the Staunton River Primitive Baptist Association. Also included are greeting cards, advertisements, a prohibition pamphlet and a photograph of the 1896 and 1897 graduating classes of Emory and Henry College. Of interest is a letter describing an attempted lynching in the 1920s and correspondence between Jennie A. Stone and the Perfection Shoe and Sandal Co., N.Y., concerning shoes for a shortened foot.
